Medical Experts’ Different View Over Garcinia Cambogia And Its Weight Loss Claims
There’s another type of weight loss supplement that has come out in the market just recently and thanks to Dr. Oz’s endorsement, many people actually believed that it can help speed up the weight-loss process. It’s called Garcinia Cambogia, a plant extract from a plant (that resembles that of a pumpkin fruit, only smaller) that can only be found in Southeast Asia.
News organizations like 10News dug deeper to prove that this supplement can truly give their consumers its promised benefits, and because it’s also not cheap they want to know if the supplement is really worth the price.
They asked the opinion of Dr. Steven Masley M.D., also a nutritionist with specializing in nutrition, vitamins and supplements regarding the fast and effective weight-loss claims of the Garcinia. He explained that although there are claims from people who trying to prove its effectiveness, there are still very few studies that can prove that the Garcinia truly has the capacity to suppress appetite and prevent accumulation of fat cells.
Despite the claims and success stories that are coming out from everywhere about it’s fast weight loss result Dr. Masley says that even if the claims can really do what it says it can do, judging from the content of the supplement and his knowledge about this thing, a person will have to take about 9 pills per day in order to lose 5 to 10 pounds. Not just that. Because one bottle of this supplement cost around $12, it will be very expensive to actually follow that dosage.
On the other hand, Dr. Masley offered 10News what he thinks is a much better alternative to Garcinia which people can concoct on their own, cost far less than other weight-loss supplements and guaranteed effective .
It’s actually a breakfast drink that only costs $1 to make. This drink is high in protein and fiber that are known to have the ability to speed up the metabolism of a person as well keep them full for a longer time.
Here is Dr. Masley’s recommended weight-loss smoothie recipe:
Blueberries or any other berry
(1 cup Frozen berries e.g. blueberries, raspberries, cherries, etc.)
Unsweetened almond milk
(1.5 cups Calium-fortified almond, soy milk, or non-fat-organic cow’s milk)
(1 Tbsp flax seed or Chia seeds, grounded)
Protein powder like whey or to avoid dairy rice or peas
(1 Scoop protein powder (20-30 grams) whey, rice-pea protein or soy)
Just combine all of the ingredients in a blender, blend, and you already have your healthy drink in just 2 minutes. You can take this to replace your usual breakfast, snack or dessert.
Here is the nutrient content of the healthy smoothie also provided by Dr. Masley:
